Joy Berger, FT, DMA, BCC, MT-BC
Joy Berger is the Director of Education for the Hospice Education Network, Inc. (HEN). In this role, Joy leads the HEN team to assess educational needs; develop relevant, expert hospice and palliative online education; and assist hospice and palliative leaders to target quality, cost-efficient solutions for their comprehensive training challenges.
Joy is credentialed as a Fellow in Thanatology: Death, Dying and Bereavement by the Association for Death Education and Counseling; Board Certified Chaplain by the Association for Professional Chaplains; and Music Therapist – Board Certified by the Certification Board for Music Therapists. She was honored with the National Heart of Hospice, Psychosocial/Spiritual Caregiver Award given by the National Council of Hospice and Palliative Care Professionals (NCHPP).
Prior to joining HEN, Joy was an enthusiastic HEN client. She served Hosparus, Inc. in Louisville, KY as Director of Hospice Institute/Education for employees, volunteers, university partnerships, and educational community outreach. Nationally, she chaired NCHPP’s Research/Academics/Education section from 2005-2010. A frequent speaker at national conferences, Joy is recognized as an expert in interdisciplinary end-of-life care. She is the author of Music of the Soul - Composing Life Out of Loss, published in Routledge's Series in Death, Dying and Bereavement.
